Incentives await firms that provide PWDs with jobs

Companies and employers who allot at least 10 percent of their workforce to persons with disabilities (PWDs) will get an incentive from the Department of Labor and Employment.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III on Saturday said these companies and employers will receive incentives in the form of moratorium on inspections for compliance with labor laws, Bello said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

The law mandates that at least one percent of a company’s workforce should be comprised of PWDs.

The Labor secretary said companies and employers experience inconvenience when DOLE conducts inspections to check on their payroll and other matters.

The moratorium will be lifted if a complaint is filed against the erring company or employer, he said.

The moratorium, however, does not cover inspections to check on compliance with safety and health standards such as having a fire escape and a fire extinguisher, he added.

Bello said the law requires that companies and employers provide equipment and facilities for the convenience of PWDs.

Other provisions in the law protect and promote the welfare of PWDs.

The DOLE conducted a job fair for PWDs at the Quezon City Hall on Wednesday.

Over 1,000 jobs in the business process outsourcing, electronics, advertising, hotel, health and wellness, travel, media, logistics, manpower and security services, sales, property management, pharmaceutical, and memorial services, among other industries, were made available.
