As Christmas approaches, Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III called on the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to ensure that Noche Buena goods are fairly priced.
Sen. Pimentel emphasized that business owners should not exploit the Christmas season to raise prices on various items, including cheese, macaroni, spaghetti sauce, fruit cocktail, all-purpose cream, ham, and other Noche Buena products.
“Christmas is a time of love and sharing. We must ensure that it does not become a time of abuse and exploitation,” Sen. Pimentel stated.
“It is important to maintain fair prices for basic goods for all Filipinos, especially for the poor,” he added.
Pimentel further urged the DTI to enhance its monitoring efforts against companies involved in price manipulation.
According to the senator, businesses that hoard stocks or engage in price gouging—especially during Christmas—should not escape accountability.
Furthermore, he advised vendors to adhere to the suggested retail prices set by the DTI and comply with consumer protection laws.
He also encouraged the public to report any companies or businesses that excessively raise prices on Noche Buena products.
“Be alert and report any price abuse to the DTI,” Pimentel advised.
“We have the right to fair and just prices for basic goods,” he added.
