mWell Ring review: Stylish wearable with tons of data

There couldn’t be a better time for wearable technology to shine. In this era, we’re all concerned about our wellbeing. So wearable computers with tiny sensors that offer insight into our health is particularly useful.

One such gadget that stands out as intriguing is the second-generation mWell Ring, which was unveiled last May. It’s a tiny 8999-peso health-monitoring device worn on a finger as if it were a piece of jewelry.

The scratch-resistant titanium ring, according to Metro Pacific Health, is best for tracking one’s sleep—light, deep, rapid eye movement, and other health metrics including heart rate, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, and average oxygen saturation.

It also tracks physical activity with over 100 sports. You can swim or dive with your mWell Ring up to 100m.

Who wouldn’t want that these days?

The mWell Ring, along with new-generation mWell Watches, has also made a splashy debut. You may have seen it worn by our athletes and celebrities like Dominic Roque, Regine Velasquez, and Jed Madela on Instagram.

Some aspects of the ring are interesting. Paired with the mWell app, the ring’s battery lasts about five to seven days, much longer than devices like the Apple Watch that need to be recharged every other day. That longer charge means the ring can stay on your body longer, which then enables it to collect more data about you over time, including detailed information about your heart rate and sleep. On my fourth day of using the ring, the battery was 57 percent—it was pretty impressive.

I liked the way the mWell app presented data for sleep in an easy-to-understand way. It showed a chart illustrating when I was in different stages of sleep. It also offered insights on my average resting heart rate in beats per minute throughout the week—mine was normal, but it’s worth noting that a higher heart rate could be the result of stress or having a late meal.

Each day, the app tallies up those various measurements to calculate an “mWellness” score. A high mWellness score like 80 and above indicates that you have a healthy physical lifestyle, lowering the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. This feature is a useful way to determine whether to do a hard workout or to rest for the day.

Light yet powerful, I love how the mWell Ring is loaded with health features at a budget-friendly price. It gave me a good amount of data about myself and helped me pinpoint areas in my sleep and health that I could improve, like my footsteps. The charts about my heart rate and sleep patterns sure looked neat. It made me aware of my habits and health—with no app subscription needed.

The sleek and stylish mWell Ring comes in eight different sizes from US 6 to 13 and is available in three colors: black, silver, and bronze. It is suitable for pretty much anyone, including body hackers and competitive athletes who are striving to optimize their fitness levels.
