WITH looks alone, the HONOR X8b deserves your attention, what with the way the cameras are positioned and its overall square shape that interestingly looks like that brand named after a fruit. What’s more, the vegan leather-like backside feels nice to touch and our unit—the Glamorous Green (others are Titanium Silver, and Midnight Black) looks pleasing to the eyes.
With its ultra-slim profile measuring just a mere 6.78mm, the HONOR X8b stands out as one of the thinnest affordable smartphones on the market, making it easy for users to conveniently slip it into their pockets. Not as thin as its sibling, the amazing Magic V2, but still thinner than 99 percent in the market.
The HONOR X8b is also super lightweight at just 166 grams, making it a delight to hold and carry around—not too large and not too small, giving a very good holding experience.
But HONOR X8b’s appeal does not only revolve around its aesthetics.
What immediately comes to mind after our weeklong use of it, is its stunning display, capable cameras and the whopping 512GB of internal storage.
Display
The HONOR X8b boasts of a large 6.7-inch display with an innovative eye-comfort feature. This AMOLED display delivers crisp and vivid visuals, even in bright sunlight, thanks to its 1200 nits HBM brightness and 2000 nits peak brightness. The screen-to-body ratio of 93.7% minimizes bezels for a more immersive viewing experience, while the 2412 x 1080 resolution ensures sharp and detailed content. To further enhance user comfort, the display features a 90Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling and a 3240Hz PWM dimming technology to reduce eye strain. This makes the HONOR X8b an ideal choice for users, who spend long hours on their smartphones.
Camera
The HONOR X8 boasts also features a versatile triple-camera system, perfect for capturing stunning photos and videos in any lighting condition. The 108MP main camera captures exceptional detail and vibrant colors, thanks to its high-resolution sensor and large pixel size. For wider shots and enhanced depth effects, the phone also includes a wide and depth camera. Battery
The HONOR X8b has a long-lasting 4500mAh battery that can keep you powered up all day. On a single charge, you can get up to 46 hours of music streaming, 13 hours of video playback, 14 hours of short video browsing, or 17 hours of social media browsing. The phone also supports 35W HONOR Supercharge fast charging, so you can quickly charge your device when you’re running low on battery. It would have been better with the 66-watt charger, but I digress.
Performance
The HONOR X8b comes equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chipset, which is paired with 8GB of RAM. This is pretty decent, but it is of course a 680 chip so it’s an entry-level one, so don’t expect to be blown away by its gaming capabilities.
It does perform nicely when it comes to just light sessions, like going through social media, switching into apps, surfing through your Chrome, checking your email, listening on Spotify or streaming your favorite Netflix show. There won’t be any hiccups, which is of course really good.
Verdict
The HONOR X8b is a decent option for users who don’t want to shell out a fortune for a smartphone, but want to prioritize display quality, battery life, storage and design.
