Taylor Swift breaks silence on Vienna shows cancellation

Global pop star Taylor Swift recently finished the European leg of her record-breaking Eras Tour, with her last show at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Following this achievement, the American singer-songwriter penned a lengthy essay to her fans on social media. While she expressed her gratitude and amazement at the surreal experience of numerous sold-out shows, Swift also addressed the controversies surrounding her three canceled shows in Vienna, which followed a foiled terrorist attack.

“Having our Vienna shows canceled is devastating,” said Swift, adding that it gave her a feeling of guilt and fear for the welfare of her fans.

As she thanked the British authorities for their efforts, she explained why she remained silent at the time.

“Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak up about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows,” said Swift in her post.

“In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to,” she added, further sharing that her priority was finishing the European tour safely.

The three canceled, sold-out shows in Vienna were supposed to be held at the Ernst Happel Stadium. The cancellation followed the arrest of teenagers who were planning to conduct a terrorist attack outside the stadium.
