PARIS (Via PLDT Home) — Filipina boxing sensation Nesthy Petecio advanced to the boxing quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics with a 4-1 victory over French opponent Amina Zidani at the North Paris Arena early Friday.
Petecio, an Olympic silver medalist, carefully assessed Zidani in the opening round before unleashing a barrage of powerful punches in the latter stages of the bout.
Her speed, precision, and strength proved too much for the hometown favorite as she secured a the decision.
Petecio takes on Chinese Xu Zichun on Sunday, shooting for a win that will guarantee her of at least a bronze in the Olympics.
