AFP cascades FOI Manual in Visayas

The Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) Visayas Command (Viscom) participated in the military’s Freedom of Information (FOI) Manual cascading to its officers and subordinate units.

The activity was initiated by Colonel Xerxes Trinidad, the Chief of the AFP’s Public Affairs Office.

According to Lt. Col. Israel Galorio, Chief of the Viscom Public Information Office, the cascading session emphasized the significance of FOI protocols in ensuring that information is accessible and managed responsibly.

This initiative reinforces good governance principles within the AFP and strengthens its trust-based relationship with the public.

Participants acquired essential knowledge regarding FOI guidelines and the appropriate handling of information requests from the public concerning government transactions and operations.

This is done without compromising privacy or national security matters, as outlined by Executive Order No. 02, series of 2016.

“Transparency is integral to our duty as public servants. The Freedom of Information initiative strengthens the connection between the AFP and our citizens, assuring them of our integrity and accountability. Every request we handle, every piece of information we provide, builds a foundation of trust and respect,” said Lieutenant General Fernando M. Reyeg PA, Commander of Viscom.

“We stand firmly behind this initiative, recognizing it as a powerful instrument in strengthening our relationship with the public. By embracing this commitment, we are not only upholding the people’s right to know but also reinforcing our own accountability and commitment to uphold democratic values,” Lt. Gen. Reyeg added.

“The FOI Manual is more than just guidelines for us to adhere to; it is a call for action. By championing the values of FOI, we are not just promoting transparency but strengthening the very fabric of our democratic society,” he concluded.

The cascading of the FOI Manual at Viscom follows the AFP’s broader dissemination and implementation across other commands and units, promoting a unified standard of openness as part of a larger government campaign to engage and empower the public.
