The amount of damage in the agriculture sector attributed to the December 9, 2024 Kanlaon Volcano eruption rose to P33-million, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Thursday.
According to NDRRMC’s latest report, it is equivalent to a total of 830 farmers and fisherfolk affected in Western Visayas. The disaster agency also said the eruption also damaged a total of 298.05 hectares of land in the said region.
National and local governments have so far extended P149.9-million worth of assistance to families affected by the ongoing restiveness of Mount Kanlaon. The NDRRMC said the amount covered P45.724-million for Western Visayas and P104.26-million for Central Visayas.
This assistance included family food packs, hygiene and sleeping kits, and financial help.
A total of 9,761 families have benefitted from government—7,309 families in Western Visayas and 2,452 families in Central Visayas. A total of 12,043 or 46,259 individuals in 26 barangays are affected across both regions.
