Phivolcs says Taal displays degassing

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Saturday said it has monitored degassing activity over Taal Volcano’s main crater.

According to Phivolcs’ visual monitor in Agoncillo Observation Station, Taal generated thick plumes that rose to 2,400 meters before drifting northwest.

“Taal has been degrassing significant volumes of volcanic gas since March 2021,” Phivolcs said. The agency also said 4,641 tonnes per day of SO2 was measured in Taal last Thursday.

In the 24-hour observation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) of active volcanoes in the Philippines, Taal exhibited one volcanic tremor that lasted four minutes.

“Entry into the Taal Volcano Island (Permanent Danger Zone), especially the main crater and Daang Kastila fissures, and occupancy and boating in Taal Lake is not allowed,” the NDRRMC said.
