President Ferdinand Marcos urged national agencies, local government units (LGUs), and the public to remain vigilant as Typhoon ‘Enteng’ hit parts of Luzon and Metro Manila on Monday.
“We’re closely monitoring the weather and the flooding, but the main concern right now is the strong winds,” President Marcos said in an interview.
He noted that the storm is expected to strengthen as it nears Manila, before crossing Cagayan and moving north.
The President reminded LGUs that they can decide on school and work suspensions, depending on their local conditions.
“It’s crucial that employees can get to work and, more importantly, get home safely,” he said.
According to the President, the government will continue to issue advisories on school and work suspensions as necessary, while reaffirming that national agencies are ready to support those impacted by Typhoon ‘Enteng.’
President Marcos also stated that he would not convene the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) during the storm, allowing the agency to focus on its response efforts.
“My policy is not to call them during a crisis because they’re already working,” he said, adding that the NDRRMC provides regular updates and monitors affected areas closely.
