ITCZ, shear line bring scattered rains across the country

The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is currently bringing scattered rains to Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan regions, while shear line is affecting the eastern parts of Northern and Central Luzon, the state weather bureau said on Thursday.

According to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the Northeast Monsoon is also influencing the remaining areas of Northern Luzon.

In the Visayas, Mindanao, Romblon, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected due to the ITCZ.

These conditions may lead to flash floods or landslides from moderate to heavy rainfall.

The rest of the Bicol Region, along with Quezon, Marinduque, Aurora, Isabela, Quirino, and Cagayan will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms caused by shear line.

Similar impacts of flash floods or landslides are possible in these areas as well.

The Cordillera Administrative Region and other parts of Cagayan Valley and Ilocos Norte will see cloudy skies with rain due to the Northeast Monsoon.

In contrast, the rest of the Ilocos Region is expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains and no significant impact.

“Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA warned.

Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms from localized thunderstorms.
