P1-billion in damage to agriculture by typhoon, southwest monsoon – NDRRMC

A total of P1.08 billion pesos worth of damage to agriculture were reported in the country due to the combined onslaught of Typhoon Butchoy, Carina and Habagat, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Wednesday.

The agency said that Region 3 lost almost 812 million pesos, equivalent to more than 19,000 farmers and fisherfolks affected, the highest among the regions followed by Mimaropa amounting to 108 million pesos equivalent to 4,795 affected farmers.

The reported number of people who died is still 39. In its latest bulletin, the NDRRMC said of the 39, it has confirmed the death of 14 people and is still validating reports on the death of the 25 others.

It likewise reported that nine people were still injured, while six are still missing.

Moreover, the council said typhoon Carina, tropical depression Butchoy, and habagat affected 5,263,531 individuals or 1,421,224 families.

According to NDRRMC, 2,127 houses were damaged — 1,869 were partially damaged, while 258 were totally destroyed.

Meanwhile, the damage sustained by the infrastructure due to the recent weather disturbance has climbed to over P4 billion pesos equivalent to 3,243 infrastructures.
