39 dead, 4.2 billion in infrastructure damage left by heavy rains – NDRRMC

A total of P4.2 billion pesos worth of damage to infrastructure were reported in the country due to the combined onslaught of Typhoon Butchoy, Carina and Habagat, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Tuesday.

The agency said that Region 3 lost almost 1.6 billion pesos, equivalent to 122 infrastructure, the highest among the regions followed by Region 1 amounting to 1.5 billion pesos equivalent to 115 infrastructure.

The reported number of people who died has reached 39. In its latest bulletin, the NDRRMC said of the 39, it has confirmed the death of 14 people and is still validating reports on the death of the 25 others.

It likewise reported that nine people were injured, while six are missing.

Moreover, the council said typhoon Carina, tropical depression Butchoy, and habagat affected 4,839,002 individuals or 1,317,111 families.

According to NDRRMC, 2,005 houses were damaged — 1,779 were partially damaged, while 226 were totally destroyed.

Meanwhile, the damage sustained by the country’s crop due to the recent weather disturbance has climbed to over P545 million, affecting 23,580 farmers and fisherfolk.
