Education is the most valuable gift to children because it provides the knowledge and skills needed to address life’s challenges. Education opens a myriad of opportunities like better job prospects, and further training, which all lead to a brighter future.

Education entails resources. There are state institutions that offer free tuition however students need to have the proper tools to aid retention of key concepts and further expand their learning experience.

A 2023 research by the World Remit Study indicated a 16 percent increase in school supply costs in the Philippines an additional strain on household budgets. Families must set aside at least 51 percent of their monthly income to cover essential school items, including pencils and notebooks.

Committed to helping vulnerable children overcome poverty and experience the fullness of life, World Vision has been supporting school children by providing learning kits. The annual back-to-school program aims to alleviate school supply costs for families while uplifting and empowering children with hope as they return to school.

“We believe that every child has the right to access quality education no matter the circumstance, so World Vision is fervently working to make that happen through the Back-to-School Campaign. Of course, we can’t do it alone, and we need the help of our fellow Filipinos to achieve that,” said Jun N. Godornes, World Vision Philippines’ Interim National Director.

The goal is to give every student a complete kit worth P1,000 each. Last year, around 24,000 children received new learning kits from World Vision.

World Vision is inviting kind-hearted individuals to consider supporting school children by donating to their Back-to-School Campaign.

Sponsors and donors can even build relationships with the child through letters, photos, and updates. Ultimately, the goal is to help the sponsored child and the family break free from poverty and build a sustainable community.

Actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith and content creator Janina Vela launched this year’s campaign entitled One Bag One Dream at the PS Bank Center in Makati. Both are long-time ambassadors of World Vision Philippines.

“It’s nice to see the smiles of the children every time they receive their bags. It really encourages them, and really makes them feel excited to go back to school, and lessens the worry of parents financially,” shared Jasmine.

Janina Vela’s journey with World Vision has truly been an eye-opener.  “I realized these are real people with real lives and stories. They are not just percentages, not just numbers and data. They are real kids who have real dreams and real goals just like we do.”
