Lonely Planet, a renowned travel guide publisher, named Siargao Island as the top destination to visit in Southeast Asia.

The recognition highlights Siargao’s diverse offerings, from world-class surfing at Cloud 9 to its idyllic beaches, vibrant local culture and commitment to sustainable tourism.

The island caters to a wide range of travelers, offering both adventure and relaxation in a unique setting.

“This honor is a testament to the beauty of Siargao and its people,” said Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco.

“It’s also a proud moment for the Philippines as a whole, showcasing the incredible diversity and warmth our country has to offer,” she said.

The DOT thanked Lonely Planet for the recognition and the local community and tourists who contributed to making Siargao a popular destination.

It reiterated its commitment to promoting sustainable tourism practices and preserving the natural wonders that make the Philippines a top travel choice.

Meanwhile, the DOT, the Department of Health (DOH) and the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) teamed up to promote tourist safety and enhance the overall visitor experience.

The partnership seeks to address the growing need for accessible and efficient medical care in popular tourist destinations across the country.

“Tourist safety is our top priority. We are committed to ensuring that visitors to our islands have access to proper and timely medical assistance in case of accidents or emergencies,” said Frasco.

Under the initiative, tourist first aid facilities will be established in key locations such as Boracay, La Union, Panglao, Siargao, Palawan and Puerto Galera. These facilities will be staffed by trained healthcare professionals and equipped with essential medical equipment and supplies.

Solar-powered tourist first aid booths will be deployed along coastlines and beaches to provide immediate medical attention in remote areas.

The initiative is expected to boost the Philippines’ reputation as a safe and attractive destination, ultimately contributing to the country’s economic development.

The DOT encourages all stakeholders in the tourism sector to support the initiative and work together to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors to the Philippines.
