The Department of Energy (DOE) endorsed 13 projects for system impact study (SIS) to transmission operator National Grid Corp. of the Philippines in January, as the government continues to woo investors to invest in the power sector.
“In January 2024, the DOE issued 13 SIS endorsements to the NGCP, which are all new applications,” the agency said.
The SIS will determine the capacity of the power grid to accommodate additional capacities and identify necessary improvements needed such as transmission lines, transformers or substations.
Blue Circle Philippines Mindoro Corp.’s 924.6-megawatt Caluya wind project in Caluya, Antique is the biggest project endorsed for SIS during the period.
Five projects of Apolaki Group were also endorsed to NGCP, including Apolaki One Inc.’s 300-MW wind project in Camarines Sur, 50-MW Tinambac wind project in Camarines Sur, Sibonga wind project in Pangasinan, 50-MW Lian wind project in Tuy, Batangas and 50-MW Taysan wind farm also in Batangas.
The other projects are Ixus Solar Energy Corp.’s 301.392-MW Aguilar solar power with 100-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in Pangasinan and Freya Renewables Inc.’s 156.25-MW Pantabangan wind power project in Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija.
It also endorsed Labrador Green Energy Corp.’s 160-MW Labrador solar project in Pangasinan, Tera Renewables 7 Corp. ‘s 451.38-MW Labrador 1 solar project in Pangasinan, Casilagan Solar Power Corp.’s 72-MW San Antonio solar project in Zambales and Burgos Pangasinan Solar Energy Corp.’s 65-MW solar project in Pangasinan.
The DOE approve a lone BESS project—Therma Mobile, Inc.’s 100-MW project at the Navotas Fishport Complex.
The DOE has been actively seeking investments to meet its 35-percent renewable energy target by 2030.
