The Philippines, in partnership with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), will host the 2024 Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) on Oct. 14 to 18 2024 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.

As the region’s largest conference on disaster risk reduction (DRR), the APMCDRR provides a platform to monitor, review and enhance cooperation for the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, which aims to reduce disaster risk and enhance resilience to natural and manmade hazards.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said the conference will carry the theme, “Surge to 2030: Enhancing ambition in Asia-Pacific to accelerate disaster risk reduction.”

This signifies a collective push by nations to enhance disaster risk governance to achieve goals of the Sendai Framework; promote practical, innovative and scalable solutions to enhance DRR financing; adopt inclusive, risk-informed and transformative approaches to the region’s unique challenges; and integrate DRR with climate change adaptation to boost overall resilience.
