Aboitiz Power’s board approves appointment of 42-year-old CEO

The board of Aboitiz Power Corp. on Friday approved the appointment of Danel Aboitiz as president and chief executive effective July 1, 2024.

It also approved the  retirement of Emmanuel Rubio from the company effective June 30, 2024.

Aboitiz, 42, is the company’s director and chief commercial and stakeholder engagement officer.  He holds various directorships within the Aboitiz Group.

“Danel Aboitiz inherits a company in great shape, and the company is confident he will take AboitizPower to the next level,” the company said.

The Aboitiz Group was named by the Energy Regulatory Commission as the biggest power generating company with a national market share of 22.47 percent and installed generating capacity (IGC) of 5,745 megawatts.

Aboitiz was appointed as private sector representative for Mindanao for the Inter-Agency Investment Promotion Coordination Committee of the Department of Trade and Industry in October 2023.

He also serves as a director of the Philippine Electricity Market Corp., vice chairman of Philippine Independent Power Producers Association and vice chair of Management Association of the Philippines’ energy committee.

He has served in various capacities throughout the Aboitiz Group and has been extensively involved in the various business units of AboitizPower.

He served as president and chief operating officer of AboitizPower’s coal and oil business units from 2016 to 2018 and handled key positions in the group’s renewable power generation companies from 2010 to 2016, including the SN AboitizPower Group and AP Renewables Inc.

Aboitiz graduated with honors from the University of Edinburgh with an MA Degree in Philosophy and Politics.
