Colors indeed make everything come alive as proven by a recent exhibition of art students of a senior recreation center.
“Coloring Lives,” has brought together the works of students in two regular art classes at Sunshine Place, Makati.
Colorful pieces from the Acrylic Painting class of Arts Association of the Philippines president Fidel Sarmiento, and those from the Porcelain Painting class of Mee Lee Casey, a Malaysian expat wife, and porcelain painting instructor were mounted, showcasing the talent of both senior and non-senior participants.
The Sunshine Place offers art classes to seniors, as well as adults, teens, and kids. At the core of the workshops, are mentoring sessions in hands-on techniques, application of different brushes and basic strokes, and color rendering.
Participants get to explore different styles in creating still life, landscape, cityscape, underwater, animals, and portrait paintings.
Both Sarmiento and Casey have helped the students in discovering their artistic talents—showing that art is for all ages.
In fact, a few Acrylic Painting students have sold a couple of paintings, done commissioned work, and joined several national and local exhibitions. Porcelain Painting students, on the other hand, have developed a passion for art, and discovered friendships in the process.
Aside from a visual feast, “Coloring Lives” intends to bring joy to its beneficiaries, the elderly residents of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Home. Proceeds from the exhibit will go to the senior home in Pasay City, which has been managed since 2012 by the Little Sisters of the Poor. The mission of the congregation of French nuns in Manila is to give respect and dignity to the elderly.
