Public Attorney’s Office chief Persida Acosta on Thursday called for the resignation of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III over the Dengvaxia controversy.
“[That is] enough, Secretary Duque. Please resign,” Acosta said during the weekly Usapang Balita in Quezon City.
“Multiple counts of homicide are not enough [for him].”
Acosta, who was fuming mad during the news conference, said Duque, ex-Health secretary Janette Garin and the other health officials must face multiple counts of murder charges for their liability in the procurement of Dengvaxia vaccines worth P3.5 billion and the mass immunization of 830,000 people.
“What is more important? There was a violation of human rights,” Acosta said.
She said PAO’s special panel of lawyers would study who should be charged with multiple murder.
Erwin Erfe of PAO said a child from Bulacan was the latest and 100th Dengvaxia victim.
“We will disclose the details provided the parents will allow us to do so,” Acosta said.
