Google is harnessing artificial intelligence to enhance its Chrome browser with a new scam protection feature.

This innovative tool, identified as “Client Side Detection Brand and Intent for Scam Detection,” utilizes a Large Language Model (LLM) to scrutinize web pages directly on users’ devices.

The feature aims to discern the brand and intent of websites, triggering the identification of potential scams across Mac, Windows, and Linux platforms.

While the precise mechanics of this feature remain unclear, it is anticipated to issue warnings when users encounter fraudulent sites.

For instance, if a user visits a deceptive Microsoft tech support page claiming their computer is infected, Chrome’s AI could analyze the site’s language and tactics.

By detecting red flags such as exaggerated urgency or dubious domains, the browser could alert users to refrain from engaging with the page or sharing personal information.

Currently undergoing testing in Chrome Canary, this tool may complement Chrome’s Enhanced Protection feature, which has recently been upgraded to incorporate AI capabilities.

Google is also likely employing pre-trained data to enhance its understanding of web content and bolster user security against scams.
