#UN17E recently welcomed the newest batch of freshmen of the De La Salle University (DLSU) and the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) with a graffiti and street art themed gig at the Henry Sy Sr. Hall Grounds.
Organized by DLSU’s Lasallian Ambassadors (LAMB) and Benilde’s Student Trainers (STRAINS), it aimed to acquaint the frosh students with the entire Lasallian community.
Well-known DJ Rammy Bitong, a DLSU alumnus, and Raphael Carbonell started off the night with music, before DJ Cupcakes (Stephen Tongco) and fellow Benildeans DJs Chris Hiceta and Rever (Gabby Mirandilla) faced off in a disc-spinning contest. Indie bands Autotelic, Ben & Ben, Lunar Lights, and Brisom then took over with a feels trip of favorite hugot songs that everyone sang along to.
The attendees burst into chaotic cheers during a showdown between Saint Benilde Romançon Dance Company (SBRDC) and La Salle Dance Company-Street (LSDC) as they showcased their hip-hop moves.
A short break brought in the hip-hopping duo of DLSU President Bro. Raymundo Suplido FSC and DLS-CSB President Bro. Dennis Magbanua FSC. They greeted the new breed of students, with Brother Magbanua also welcoming students from other Lasallian schools in the country, including De La Salle Zobel, De La Salle Sta. Rosa and De La Salle Dasmariñas. “You all now are called Lasallians!” he declared.
On the other hand, Brother Suplido emphasized that a Lasallian is not just being a student at a Lasallian institution, but it is about being part of a family. “We are 85 Lasallian families in the whole world.”
Hosts 99.5 Play FM DJs Katz and Jelo then introduced the evening’s most-awaited set. The cheering of the crowd welcomed vocalist Yael Yuzon as Spongecola played the hit song “Tuliro,” which rocked the Taft grounds and lifted up spirits despite the downpour.
