Caloocan City’s Department of Public Safety and Traffic Management has ordered the strict enforcement of the wearing of helmets by city employees including traffic personnel.
This came after officer in charge engineer Gilberto Bernardo observed that many city government employees violate the traffic rule on proper attire while driving motorcycles.
In a memorandum, Bernardo reminded the DPSTM personnel to observe traffic rules. “The traffic enforcers should themselves lead by example. Even police officers, Metro Manila Development Authority traffic enforcers and the like are not exempted from wearing helmets. Hence, violators will be sanctioned and issued traffic violation receipts with corresponding fines,” the memorandum read.
Bernardo admitted that many of his enforcers have been catching violators but the enforcers themselves do not wear the proper safety gear.
“We want to implement change and discipline the motorists, so we have to set the example.”
The DPSTM chief also warned the riders to be very careful in driving specially during the rainy days when roads are slippery.
