BYD›s Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) have emerged as strong contenders for the prestigious 2024 World Car of the Year (WCOTY) awards. The World Car Awards has recognized the BYD Seal performance sedan as a Top 10 Finalist for the WCOTY overall title, while the BYD Dolphin hatchback has secured a spot as a Top 5 Finalist in the 2024 World Urban Car category. These nominations also make the BYD Seal and Dolphin eligible for the 2024 World Car Design of the Year award.
The BYD Atto 3 subcompact crossover has also earned a place among the initial 36-car list of qualifiers for the 2024 World Car Awards. With three eligible entries, BYD is one of only two brands to have achieved this feat for this year›s World Car of the Year prize.
The World Car Awards, now in its 20th year, consists of over 100 jurors who are esteemed motoring journalists from around the world. Their role is to recognize, reward, and inspire automotive excellence, leadership, and innovation in a rapidly evolving industry.
To be eligible for the World Car of the Year award, vehicles must be produced in volumes of at least 10,000 units per year and priced below the luxury car level in their primary markets. They must also be available for sale in at least two major markets on two separate continents between January 1, 2023, and March 30, 2024.
