Ocean conservation organization Oceana has launched a photo exhibition at the National Museum of Natural History featuring coastal greenbelts.

The photo exhibition, entitled “Our Coastal Greenbelts, Our National Treasure,” features the country’s coastal greenbelts and mangrove areas and their role as frontal defense against the destructive impacts of climate change.

With the country ranking second in the fastest mangrove loss in Southeast Asia due to various instances of land reclamations, illegal fishpond conversions, illegal cutting, and marine pollution, the exhibition hopes to raise awareness about the need to protect coastal greenbelts and mangrove areas in the Philippines.

The photo exhibition was launched last July 16 and was graced by Oceana Vice President Attorney Gloria Estenzo Ramos, Chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources Senator Cynthia Villar, and NMP Trustee and Chief Mangrove Scientific Advisor of the Zoological Society of London Dr. Jurgenne Primavera.

The “Our Coastal Greenbelts, Our National Treasure” photo exhibition is available for viewing until Aug 2 at the Hyundai Hall of the National Museum of Natural History.
