As the Christmas season has finally begun, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has highlighted two key features of the eGov Super App and encouraged everyone to use them, especially during this festive time.
DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy emphasized the importance of the eReport and eTravel features of the eGov PH app, especially as the Christmas season approaches.
“With the holiday season upon us, we expect a rise in online scams, making the eReport feature of eGov essential. Additionally, the eTravel system is crucial during this time, as many families take advantage of the Christmas break to travel,” Uy said.
Meanwhile, DICT Undersecretary David Almirol further explained the significance of these two features.
“One of the standout features of the eGov Super App is the eReport system. Users can easily report different concerns with just a simple click,” Almirol shared during a recent radio interview.
“For example, reporting a crime alerts the police, while a fire incident notifies the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). Complaints about red tape are forwarded to ARTA (Anti-Red Tape Authority), and cases involving women and child abuse are directed to the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) and the Council for the Welfare of Children,” he explained, highlighting the system’s versatility.
Almirol also emphasized a significant improvement to the eReport feature: integrating the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) consumer protection services.
This addition empowers the public to directly report online shopping issues, scams, or misrepresented products through the app.
“The newest feature is e-commerce reporting for DTI’s consumer protection,” he said. “This allows users to report online shopping issues, scams, or misrepresented products. The DTI Consumer Protection Office receives real-time reports and responds promptly,” he added.
The e-Report feature also streamlines the process of reporting scam numbers. By simply capturing a screenshot of the suspicious text message along with the sender’s number, users can submit it directly to the government via the eGov App.
For the eTravel feature, Almirol explained that “this system serves as a unified digital platform for passengers entering and leaving the Philippines, streamlining border control, enhancing health surveillance, and providing valuable insights for economic data analysis.”
“It embodies the government’s commitment to efficiency and security in travel processes,” he added.
A Digital Gateway to Government Services
The eGov PH Super App, launched in June 2023, serves as a unified platform for government services in the Philippines, offering a wide range of features.
“The eGov PH App is our Government Super App, designed to consolidate numerous government services,” the DICT Undersecretary stated.
“Instead of navigating countless websites or registering repeatedly on different apps and portals, users can access their information and services all in one place,” he added.
Almirol further revealed that the app aims to make the National ID accessible via mobile.
“Once you have access to your National ID, you can utilize it for various government services, including PhilHealth, GSIS (Government Service Insurance System), job applications, tourism, agriculture, and even DTI services,” he shared.
How to download, use eGov App
To access the e-Report system, users must download the eGov App from the App Store or Google Play Store.
After installation, users are required to register using their mobile number and authenticate it with a One-Time PIN.
Subsequently, users must provide basic information and complete the facial recognition process to finalize their registration.
“If you possess a National ID, it will automatically verify your identity using AI. Foreigners need to scan their passports,” Almirol explained.
“Those without a National ID can upload a valid government-issued ID. Once registered, users can access the numerous services offered by the app, including the e-report system,” he added.
Moreover, Almirol assured the public of eGov App’s robust security measures.
“The app employs encrypted data and adheres to a ‘Zero Trust Policy,’ ensuring that information is handled exclusively by the respective government agencies,” he explained.
He added, “For instance, PhilHealth data is managed solely by PhilHealth, and GSIS manages GSIS data. No data is stored directly by the DICT. Additionally, the app integrates AI technology to prevent identity fraud.”
The use of the DICT’s eGov app is part of the #HolidayWatchPH Eight Ways to Fight the 12 Scams of Christmas of Scam Watch Pilipinas.
