realme C65: A budget-friendly surprise

Global electronics manufacturer realme has seen its fair share of new smartphone releases for the past several months, phones that have captivated the fancy of even the most discriminating consumers – particularly the realme 12 series – the 12 5G, 12 Pro+ 5G and 12+ 5G.

The brand isn’t slowing down anytime soon as scheduled for release is its budget offering – the realme C65.

What initially caught our attention is its sleek, slim design, with a metallic frame that gives it a surprisingly premium feel – simple, but it avoids the plasticky look found in budget phones (our unit is Starlight Purple and it looks great).

It’s also lightweight and comfortable to hold, what with its 7.64mm thickness, or slimness, for that matter.

Even with a large battery capacity of 5000 mAh measuring 4.4 in thickness, it only weighs 185 grams!

The back panel is a smooth, with its flat surface featuring a triple camera system.

And then there’s the display, the large 6.72-inch panel that is certainly one of its draws. The display itself feels responsive, with a 90Hz refresh rate that makes scrolling a breeze.

There’s also a cool feature called “Rainwater Smart Touch” that adjusts the screen for use even with wet fingers – perfect for those unexpected downpours, especially now that the Philippine rainy season has begun.

Another appeal of the realme C65 is its promise of a 48-Month Fluency Protection,  meaning that through the optimization of software, hardware and other comprehensive technologies, the realme C65 has passed the 48-month fluency testing in a realme laboratory.

The realme C65 also offers a 45W SUPERVOOC that promises charging from 0% to 50% in 30 minutes, then up to 100% in 77 minutes. (We’ll see if it lives up to that promise in the coming days.)

I haven’t tested its Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 (6nm; 4G) processor yet to its fullest, but for light work, gaming, streaming, calls, emails and the like, the realme C65 feels capable enough.

Overall, the realme C65 makes a strong first impression. It boasts of a stylish, slim design, a smooth display with a nice rain-friendly feature, a capable processor and fast-charging capability — at a price point that will bring a smile to the budget conscious.
