Cheick Diallo delivered an outstanding performance with 37 points and eight rebounds, powering the Converge Fiber Xers to a decisive fourth-quarter surge that secured a 102-91 victory over the NLEX Road Warriors on Wednesday in the 49th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Diallo spearheaded the Fiber Xers’ comeback with 12 points in the final quarter, marking his best game since his 43-point effort in a loss to Hong Kong Eastern on November 29.
Alec Stockton provided crucial support with 16 points, helping Converge improve to a 3-2 record and bounce back from a tough 101-108 defeat to NorthPort Batang Pier in their previous game.
“Coming off a loss leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. We wanted to refocus on what we do best and address areas where we can improve,” said Converge head coach Franco Atienza.
The Fiber Xers held off the Road Warriors’ rally when Stockton hit a clutch three-pointer with less than eight minutes remaining, followed by free throws that extended their lead to 89-82.
Jordan Heading, who registered a double-double with 14 points and 11 assists, also nailed a timely triple that widened the gap to 98-86 with under three minutes left.
Despite Mike Watkins’ impressive 36-point, 23-rebound performance for the Road Warriors, NLEX suffered its second consecutive defeat.
