The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) are urging local government units and residents to prepare for Tropical Depression “Querubin.”
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that Querubin formed from a Low Pressure Area (LPA) east of Mindanao on December 17, 2024.
This weather disturbance is expected to bring significant rainfall to the Visayas and Mindanao regions, while the Northeast Monsoon will affect parts of Luzon.
As of now, Signal No. 1 has been raised in Davao Oriental, with potential impacts extending to Regions VI through XII and BARMM.
Heavy to intense rainfall of 100-200 mm is forecasted for Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental.
Moderate to heavy rains are also anticipated across various areas in Luzon and the Visayas from December 18 until the afternoon.
Authorities warn that prolonged rainfall could lead to flooding and landslides, particularly in low-lying regions.
The Kanlaon Volcano is currently at Alert Level 3 due to recent magmatic unrest, raising concerns about potential lahar flows.
The OCD emphasizes the need for preparedness measures, including pre-emptive evacuations and positioning emergency supplies.
Approximately 2.6 million people across multiple regions are at risk from this weather disturbance.
