Ahanmisi powers Magnolia past winless Terrafirma

The Magnolia Timplados Hotshots, led by a stellar performance from Jerrick Ahanmisi, dominated Terrafirma Dyip with a decisive 124-102 victory on Sunday evening at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in the 49th Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup.

Ahanmisi was the key to the Hotshots’ success, contributing 24 points, including two triples and four four-pointers. From the outset, the Hotshots seized control, securing their second win in four games in Group A.

Ahanmisi’s two four-pointers in the first quarter helped propel the Hotshots to an early 34-13 lead within the first 10 minutes of play.

Coach Chito Victolero expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, especially after their recent 82-89 loss to the TNT Tropang Giga last Thursday.

Glenn Robinson III added 20 points, nine of which came in the first quarter, complementing Ahanmisi’s efforts and helping the Hotshots establish an early advantage.

“This is a strong comeback after our last setback. We started strong and maintained our pace. I think our defense also improved as the game progressed,” said Victolero.

Ian Sangalang’s layup with 4:50 remaining in the second quarter gave the Hotshots a commanding 60-22 lead.

Ahanmisi, standing at 6’1″, scored 10 points in the second quarter, extending the Hotshots’ lead to 63-32 at halftime.

Zav Lucero contributed 13 of his 15 points in the third quarter, allowing the Hotshots to maintain their lead at 86-64.

In the final period, Joseph Eriobu and Ahanmisi added 12 and 10 points, respectively, as the Hotshots closed out the game with a 21-point margin.

Despite strong efforts from Stanley Pringle, who scored 23 points, and Christian Standhardinger, who added 22, the Dyip remained winless after four games.
