ABS-CBN Studio’s newest romantic comedy series Halfmates is positioning Kaori Oinuma and Jeremiah Lisbo as the next love team to watch. Known for their natural chemistry, the two actors credit their close friendship for their ease on-screen.
At a press conference for the show, Kaori and Jeremiah explained how their bond, which started before the pandemic, has made them comfortable working together.
“Our love team started even before the pandemic, but we were given several individual projects. So, whenever people ask why we have this kind of chemistry, the simple answer is that we’re good friends and we’re quite comfortable with each other now,” Jeremiah said.
“We’re familiar with each other and we already know how to treat one another. I guess the reason people see good chemistry between us is because we’re no longer in an adjustment period when it comes to knowing each other,” Kaori added.
In Halfmates, Kaori plays Dani, a lively former overseas Filipino worker (OFW), while Jeremiah portrays James, a reserved and structured character. Their lives become entangled after both are scammed into buying the same house, forcing them to share a home despite their clashing personalities. The series will explore how their relationship evolves amid the challenges of living under the same roof.
Produced by RCD Narratives and directed by Raz dela Torre, Halfmates is written by Chie Floresca and Akeem del Rosario, with creative manager Arah Jell Badayos overseeing the project.
This series follows Kaori and Jeremiah’s much-anticipated return as a pair following their successful roles in He’s Into Her, Fractured, The Four Bad Boys and Me, and the film Love At First Stream.
Kaori rose to fame after her stint on Pinoy Big Brother: Otso and has since starred in A Very Good Girl and What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim. Jeremiah, on the other hand, debuted in Make It With You and was recently seen in Unbreak My Heart and Pamilya Sagrado.
Halfmates premieres on Oct. 18, with new episodes airing every Tuesday and Friday on ABS-CBN Entertainment’s YouTube channel.
