GMA Kapuso Foundation enhances disaster response with major relief operations

The GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF) has solidified its role as a critical support system for Filipinos affected by calamities and disasters. Dedicated to its core mission of providing immediate relief, GMAKF has expanded its focus to include health and education programs. 

In 2023, the Foundation reached 263,370 individuals through various initiatives, with Operation Bayanihan assisting 132,908 people, education programs supporting 62,568, health projects benefiting 4,341, and values formation programs touching 63,553 lives.

In 2024, GMAKF has intensified its relief efforts due to increasing severe weather events. From January to July, Operation Bayanihan assisted 127,546 individuals. The Foundation provided aid to 17,800 residents affected by the shear line phenomenon in Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental, and offered support to 12,500 evacuees following the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon.

During a severe drought, GMAKF helped 52,800 people across multiple provinces and responded to Typhoon Aghon, floods, and landslides with substantial relief efforts. 

The Foundation’s continued expansion includes building calamity-resistant classrooms and conducting blood drives, further enhancing its impact.

Rapid response to typhoons 

The GMA Kapuso Foundation’s swift action in response to Super Typhoon Carina and the habagat (Southwest Monsoon) illustrates its commitment to disaster relief. 

The Foundation, supported by Sparkle GMA Artist Center talents and Kapuso personalities, has conducted extensive relief operations. So far, GMAKF has assisted 30,246 individuals affected by Typhoon Carina.

Relief efforts in Marikina City included food distribution through the Kapuso Soup Kitchen, sponsored by GMA Network Chairman Attorney Felipe L. Gozon, with actress Bianca Umali participating. Additional support came from GMAKF Executive Vice President Rikki Escudero-Catibog, and service partners including AFP Joint Task Force NCR and the Naval Reserve Public Affairs Unit, with contributions from Kapuso stars Dingdong Dantes, Rocco Nacino, and Beatrice Luigi Gomez.

Operation Bayanihan has provided assistance to more than 127,000 individuals in communities all over the country

In various locations, food packs and hot meals were distributed to thousands of families, including 750 families in Malabon and 300 families in Navotas City. In Rizal province, Sparkle artists and GMAKF provided relief to over 5,000 individuals. 

The Foundation’s relief efforts also extended to evacuation centers in Cainta and San Juan City, with support from Korean actor Kim Ji Soo and Juancho Trivino.
