Paris 2024: Hoffman, Tolentino need to hurdle extra step in Olympics quest

Filipina hurdler Lauren Hoffman had a rough start in her 2024 Olympics journey, finishing eighth overall in Heat 4 of the women’s 400m hurdles on Sunday, August 4.

Hoffman completed the race at 57.84 seconds, the last in her batch, which means she has to compete in the repechage round in order to stay alive in the competition.

Only the Top 3 in each heat, along with the next three fastest hurdlers, earned an outright entry to the semifinals.

Those who failed to qualify still have a chance to move on to the next round via the repechage or the wild-card system.

In the men’s 110m hurdles, Filipino bet John Cabang Tolentino was also relegated to the repechage after placing sixth in Heat 1 at 13.66 seconds. He placed 32nd overall among 40 participants.
