MALOLOS CITY – Starting Monday, Dec. 23, rice priced at P40 will be for sale until Dec. 31 at the Guiguinto market located at the back of the Guiguinto Municipal Hall along McArthur Highway, in Poblacion, Guiguinto, Bulacan.
The project, dubbed: “KADIWA NG GUIGUINTO – Rice for All” is a joint undertaking between the Bulacan RiceMillers & Importers Association (BRIA) and 5th District Congressman Ambrosio Cruz to make rice affordable to every Filipino family at P40 per kilo.
“The launching of KADIWA ng GUIGUINTO on Dec. 23 will be a pilot-testing program and if all turns out well, the ‘40-Peso Rice for All’ project will be formally launched all over Bulacan starting January 6,” Guiguinto Mayor Agay Cruz said.
Earlier, the Department of Agriculture said it is planning to release new rice varieties called “sulit rice” and “nutri rice,” which will be sold at lower prices as a “New Year offering” to Filipinos.
Agriculture Assistant Secretary Genevieve Guevarra said the sulit rice will be priced at P36 per kilo while the nutri rice will be available at P38 per kilo.The new rice varieties, to be available starting 2025, will be in addition to the P40 per kilo price for mixed local and imported well-milled rice currently offered at Kadiwa stores.
