Solon cites own track record in senatorial bid

A congressman who is seeking a Senate seat has cited his 32-year legislative track record, saying it is “a story like no other.”

Valenzuela City Rep.  Eric Martinez, a former House Deputy Speaker and currently vice-chairperson of the powerful House Committee on Appropriations, highlighted the importance of having an extensive resume in applying for any job, claiming his 32 years of legislative and public service experience proves his sincerity and worthiness in seeking for a Senate seat.

“A long resume of legislative work – 32 years. If you want a resume, that’s my resume. Compared to others, that’s a story like no other,” Martinez said.

Before serving his third consecutive term as a congressman that started in 2022, Martinez first served as Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Kagawad in Brgy. Marulas, Valenzuela from 1992 until 1996; a legislative position.

From 1997 until now, Martinez was elected in various legislative positions such as Brgy. Kagawad (1997-2001), Valenzuela City 2nd District Councilor (2001-2007), Valenzuela City Vice Mayor (2007-2016), and eventually as Valenzuela City 2nd District Representative from 2016, within which was elected as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2020 to 2022.

Martinez also once headed the House Committee on Youth and Sports, and currently as vice-chair of the Appropriations committee; he depended the proposed budget for fiscal year 2025 of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) during plenary deliberations recently.
