The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has commended its Medical Response Team for saving the life of a passenger at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport – Terminal 3 on Friday.

MIAA General Manager Eric Ines said an elderly passenger was unresponsive but breathing when the team arrived at the pre-departure area.

Led by Dr. Blesylda Tatad Busto, along with nurses and assistants, the team administered necessary emergency procedures to revive the patient. The patient was given five liters of oxygen per minute and immediately rushed to Makati Medical Center using an MIAA ambulance, accompanied by her family.

The passenger and her family were waiting to board a domestic flight when the incident occurred.

Ines commended his team, saying “Great work for our Medical Response Teams. That was a good response by our Duty T3 Medical Team.”

Dr. Busto and her team are scheduled to receive recognition during MIAA’s June flag-raising ceremony.

Ines assured the public that the MIAA emergency services teams are on alert 24/7 to respond to any emergency within the NAIA complex.

The Medical Division and the Fire and Rescue Division comprise the MIAA Emergency Services Department, which has around 300 personnel comprising medical doctors, nurses, nursing aides, and firefighters.

They regularly undergo aviation emergency preparedness training to stay updated with the latest internationally accepted standards in their fields of practice, consistent with the ICAO manual on Standards and Recommended Practices.
