The mother of rescued Filipina-American activist Chantal Anicoche expressed gratitude to the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division following her daughter’s safe return to the United States on Friday, January 30.
Maria Liza Anicoche conveyed her message on Tuesday to Col. Michael Aquino, Jungle Fighter Division spokesperson and Public Affairs Office chief, with her consent for its publication.
In her message, Mrs. Anicoche thanked the military for the professionalism, compassion, and humanitarian care shown to her daughter from the time of her rescue through her medical recovery.
She cited the swift actions to ensure Chantal’s safety, coordination among authorities, and continuous medical attention at the Army Station Hospital.
She also expressed appreciation for the respect, dignity, and discretion shown to her daughter and family during what she described as a difficult and emotional period.
“Our family feels an immense sense of gratitude, not only for her successful rescue but also for the respect, dignity, and discretion shown during such a difficult and emotional time. We deeply appreciate the unwavering commitment of your personnel to their duty and to protecting innocent human lives,” Mrs. Anicoche said.
She acknowledged the efforts of 2nd Infantry Division personnel in ensuring her family’s safe arrival in the Philippines, saying the care and support extended to them left a lasting impression.
Anicoche was rescued on January 1 by government troops conducting clearing operations in Barangay Cabacao, Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro.
This was after she was allegedly abandoned by her companions amid encounters between government forces and New People’s Army (NPA) elements.
Chantal was immediately secured and given medical and humanitarian assistance.
In response, Col. Aquino said the message reflects the Army’s core values, particularly in operations involving civilians affected by armed conflict.
“Our duty is to protect lives and uphold human dignity. We are grateful for the trust placed in our soldiers and medical personnel, and we remain committed to carrying out our mission with professionalism, compassion, and respect for every individual,” Aquino said.
