LPA off Mindanao likely to develop into ‘Basyang’

A low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine area of responsibility in the eastern part of Mindanao is expected to develop into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours.

According to its 3 a.m. advisory Tuesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was located 1,350 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao.

It is likely to enter the PAR within the day (Tuesday) as a tropical depression to be named ‘Basyang,” PAGASA weather forecaster Chenel Dominguez said.

“The tropical depression will possibly move west northwest and pass between the Visayas at Mindanao to cross toward Palawan starting Thursday until the weekend,” she said.

“We remind our countrymen here in the Visayas and Mindanao to be prepared from the rain and the bad weather,” she added.

In another development, the shear line and the northeast Monsoon will continue to trigger cloudy skies and rains in different parts of the country today.

In its 4 a.m. public weather forecast, the weather bureau said the shear line is affecting the eastern sections of the Visayas and Mindanao.

On the other hand, the northeast monsoon is affecting Luzon.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms will prevail over the Visayas, Caraga, Davao Region and Misamis Oriental.

The northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with light rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

The rest of Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
