Philippine Ambassador to the United States, Jose Manuel Romualdez, met with incoming U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Lee Lipton ahead of his arrival in Manila to begin his official diplomatic posting.
The two envoys discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in security, trade, energy, and other strategic sectors between Manila and Washington.
In a press release from the Philippine Embassy in the U.S. on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila), Romualdez confirmed that Lipton will arrive in the Philippines by “mid-June.”
“Both officials also underscored the importance of expanding cooperation in emerging strategic sectors such as in the processing of critical minerals, energy cooperation, advanced manufacturing, and resilient supply chains,” the statement read.
As the Philippines chairs ASEAN, the officials exchanged views on regional and global developments.
They also discussed the Philippines’ candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council in June.
Romualdez welcomed the incoming envoy and expressed confidence that Philippine-U.S. relations will continue to strengthen, driven by their shared commitment to advancing both countries’ and peoples’ interests.
In October 2025, President Donald Trump appointed Lee Lipton, a former businessman, as the new U.S. ambassador to the Philippines, succeeding Marykay Carlson.
Before his appointment, Lipton served as the Interim Permanent Representative to the U.S. Mission to the Organization of American States.
In this role, he managed staff operations, financial resources, and interagency coordination to promote U.S. foreign policy objectives in the Western Hemisphere.
According to his State Department profile, prior to entering public service, Lipton led a New York City-based apparel business, overseeing design, manufacturing, marketing, and distribution for licensed collections of brands like Calvin Klein, St. John Knits, and Guess.
