BSP: December inflation seen within 1.2% to 2%

Inflation in December 2025 likely settled within the 1.2 percent to 2.0 percent range, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said Monday, citing upward price pressures from higher food and fuel prices.

In its month-ahead inflation forecast, the BSP said price pressures could stem from increased prices of major food items in December amid lingering effects of adverse weather conditions, coupled with strong holiday demand.

The central bank also noted that higher prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and gasoline may have contributed to inflation during the month.

These pressures, however, may have been partly offset by lower electricity rates in Meralco-serviced areas, as well as declining kerosene and diesel prices.

The country’s inflation rate eased to 1.5 percent last November from 1.7 percent in October, bringing the 11-month national inflation average to 1.6 percent.

Data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed the continued downtrend in price movements was driven mainly by the near-flat increase in the heavily weighted food and non-alcoholic beverages index.

Food inflation also declined during the month due to slower price increases for vegetables and meat.

Based on its release calendar for 2026, the PSA is scheduled to publish the December 2025 inflation data on Jan. 6, 2026.
