THE Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday disclosed it has formally charged retired Court of Appeals Associate Justice Isaias Dicdican with gross misconduct for alleged involvement in the 2020 murder of lawyer Joey Luis Wee in Cebu City.
SC spokesperson Camille Ting made the disclosure during a press conference in Baguio City.
Wee was reportedly shot dead while on his way to his law office in Barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City.
In its en banc session, the High Tribunal directed Dicdican to respond to the charge within a non-extendible period of 10 days from receipt of notice.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) endorsed the case to the Cebu City Prosecution Office and the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Earlier, the NBI and local police formed a special task force to investigate the killing of Wee who was known for handling cases involving government officials.
“Acting on a memorandum from court administrator Raul Villanueva dated March 24, 2025, the SC formally charged Dicdican with gross misconduct for his alleged involvement in the murder of Atty. Joey Luis B. Wee,” Ting said.
“Another penalty for the retired Court of Appeals justice possibly is he won’t be able to receive his pension anymore,” said Ting.
With the charge being administrative in nature, Ting said Dicdican may also face disbarment as additional penalty.
Wee was shot and killed by two assailants on November 23, 2020 at the ground floor of a building in Cebu City where Dicdican’s law office was located.
On December 8, National Bureau of Investigation agents arrested in Cabuyao, Laguna former Army Sgt. Fausto Edgar Benigno Peralta who was tagged as a suspect in the killing.
Peralta, along with five other suspects have been charged for the murder.
