The National Press Club (NPC) supports the call of ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo for the Senate to file a bill seeking the exclusion of the media as witnesses in drug-related cases being part of the inventory team.
While the House has approved the.amendment of RA 9165 Sec 21, the Senate on the other hand is yet to file its counterpart measure.
In a statement, the NPC said it is about time the said law is amended considering the dangers journalists face as part of the law enforcers’ raids and investigations of drug cases.
The NPC and other stakeholders discussed the topic in a consultative meeting with the Presidential Task Force on media security.
“I am very thankful to the NPC for their support in the call to exempt or become a witness in any drug operations by law enforcers considering the threats they are facing as media practitioners,” Tulfo said.
