Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairperson George Erwin Garcia and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Jaime Santiago signed a memorandum of agreement on December 20, 2024.
This partnership aims to enhance cybersecurity measures for the upcoming midterm elections in 2025.
“The NBI will always serve the Filipino people, assuring that there will be an honest and peaceful election. That has always been our mandate, to ensure peace, especially during the election season,” said Santiago.
“The signing of this Memorandum of Agreement is a good opportunity for both agencies to collaborate with each other,” he added.
The signing took place at the NBI head office in Pasay City.
Santiago noted that while no system is completely secure, proactive steps will be implemented to safeguard the electoral process.
In addition to cybersecurity, the NBI will address other election-related offenses, including vote-buying.
