Singson reveals plan to launch EV factory in Batangas

A Korean-based electric vehicle (EV) factory is set to open in Lipa City, Batangas, aimed at contributing to environmental protection, according to business magnate Chavit Singson.

In an interview with Manila Standard, Singson emphasized that environment-friendly practices must be adopted by everyone to mitigate the negative effects of typhoons, such as flooding and landslides.

“If we don’t help nature, our environment will only be destroyed. This e-vehicle project is a big help to us; this should be considered collectively by people who are genuinely concerned about nature because sometimes, others just don’t care,” he stated in the interview.

“Power producers should use renewable sources of energy such as hydro, solar, and wind, among others,” he added.

The senatorial candidate also mentioned that this initiative aims to address the longstanding issues in public transportation, particularly the concerns of drivers and operators.

He revealed that this initiative can produce a unit valued at P1.2 million without requiring a down payment, collateral, or additional interest.

In a separate interview, Orlando Marquez, president of Liga ng Transportasyon at mga Operator sa Pilipinas (LTOP), expressed gratitude for this initiative to promote electric transportation in the country.

“We call on our ranks to support this program. Let us help our economy because progressive countries use electricity in public transport. Also, the iconic identity of the jeepney will not be lost,” he said.

Marquez underscored that the deregulation of fuel is a “big pain,” suggesting that if electricity is utilized instead, solar electric power stations will be employed for charging.

He added that if this effort is implemented nationwide, it will significantly aid in protecting and conserving the environment.
