The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) lifted all tropical cyclone wind signals in areas affected by Typhoon ‘Julian’ as it weakened further into a tropical depression on Friday morning.
Based on its early morning weather advisory, PAGASA said ‘Julian’ is “moving almost stationary” about 240 kilometers north northwest of Itbayat, Batanes where it is expected to stay until 2:00 PM today.
“’Julian’ is forecast to weaken into a remnant low today over the landmass of Taiwan or the sea southwest of Taiwan,” according to the state weather bureau.
Weather specialist Benison Estareja attributed its weakening to the rugged terrain of Taiwan. He said the typhoon may dissolve anytime soon. He noted, however, that PAGASA continues to monitor cloud clusters or intertropical convergence zones within the Philippines’ area of responsibility.
