About 700 misrepresentation cases are pending with the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Comelec chairman George Erwin Garcia said on Monday.

He said these cases are part of the “less than 10,000 cases” being reviewed by the poll regulator.

In the latest list provided by Garcia, those facing misrepresentation charges are five SK chairpersons and the rest are SK members. Names on the list come from different parts of Metro Manila and parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The Comelec did not provide details of the supposed violations of the Omnibus Election Code committed by the said individuals.

The list of officials represents only a portion of politicians facing charges before the Comelec, Garcia said.

Others who are not included in that August list, according to Garcia, are either village officials, mayors, or congressmen.

He said the list proves that the Comelec is not singling out dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo, whose similar case is being deliberated on in the Commission.

The said cases are now pending before the Comelec’s Law Division.

With less than two weeks before the voter’s registration ends on September 30, the Comelec said it is fully ready for the conduct of automated 2025 National and Local elections as more than 18,000 national and local positions are up for grabs in next year’s midterm polls.

Based on the Comelec data, the number of new registered voters for the 2025 national and local elections (NLE) has reached more than 6.1 million.

As of September 13,  Comelec data showed that the number of new registrants was at 6,131,834. Of this number, a total of 3,153,433 were female while 2,978,401 were male.

Meanwhile, at least  18,271 elective posts will be contested involving 14 different positions next year. There are 18,271 elective posts involving 14 different positions that are available in next year’s general elections.

Garcia said 12 seats in the Senate will be at stake while there are  63 available seats for party-list representatives and 254 for congressional district representatives.

At the provincial level, there are 82 seats for governors, the same number for vice governors and 792 seats for provincial board members.

For the country’s cities, there are 149 seats for mayors, the same number for vice mayors and 1,682 for councilors.

There are 1,493 seats for mayors, 1,493 for vice mayors and 11,948 for councilors in the country’s municipalities. Registered voters in the country will be voting their bets on May 12, 2025.
