Lawmakers hail ‘JDV’ accomplishments

The House of Representatives has adopted a resolution commending former Speaker Jose “JDV” C. De Venecia Jr. for his distinguished service and significant contributions to the country.

“Highly accomplished both in the Philippines and abroad, he was awarded numerous decorations and titles from several foreign governments and universities including the Legion of Honor from President Jacques Chirac of France,” read House Resolution 1974, which the chamber adopted Wednesday, August 28.

“Now, therefore, be it resolved by the House of Representatives, to commend the Honorable Jose C. De Venecia Jr., former Speaker of the House of Representatives, for his distinguished service and significant contributions to the country,” it added.

De Venecia, fondly known as “JDV” to family, friends, and colleagues, was elected as the Representative of the Fourth Legislative District of Pangasinan for an impressive seven terms and was the only member of the House who served as Speaker for five terms, particularly during the 9th to 10th, and 12th to 14th Congresses.

De Venecia also co-founded and alternatively served as the secretary general, president, chair and chair emeritus of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) political party, which became a dominant party in the House for around 15 years.
