Political ‘rigodon’ expected in Cavite for 2025 polls

The political landscape in Cavite is shaping up weeks before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) opens the filing for candidacies in the 2025 midterm elections, with First District Board Member Davey Chua set to challenge incumbent Vice Mayor Arlynn Torres for the mayoralty race in Noveleta.

Chua is the brother of incumbent Noveleta Mayor Dino Chua of the Lakas-CMD party, who is yet to confirm if he will be sliding down as vice mayor next year.

In Kawit, Governor Jonvic Remulla has thrown his support behind Councilor Armie Aguinaldo, the mother of Mayor Angelo Aguinaldo. She is expected to face former Rep. Francis Gerald Abaya in a high-profile battle for the mayor’s office.

In Tanza, Remulla also endorsed Vice Mayor Simon Matro and Tutuy Sanariz for the top two local posts, who may face a challenge from Councilor Icel Del Rosario Morales and Dr. Chingbee Pangan.

Meanwhile, in Naic, Vice Mayor Junio Dualan is eyeing a return as mayor, squaring off against the tandem of Councilors Tere Puno and Rommel Magbitang.

In Silang, former Mayor Omil Poblete is poised to run against suspended Mayor Kevin Anarna and acting Mayor Ted Carranza for the leadership of Cavite’s wealthiest municipality.

Elsewhere in Cavite, several mayors, including Strike Revilla of Bacoor, Alex Advincula of Imus, Luis Ferrer IV of General Trias City, Voltaire Ricafrente of Rosario, Dahlia Loyola of Carmona, Jennifer Barzaga of Dasmariñas, Bambol Tolentino of Tagaytay City and Denver Chua of Cavite City, remain unchallenged as of this writing.
