Abu Dhabi-based Clean Rivers delegates have visited Manila to collaborate with the Philippine government on addressing the plastic waste problem in Pasig River.

Clean Rivers is a global organization dedicated to catalyzing partnerships between governments, communities, and businesses to tackle the root cause of plastic pollution in rivers.

The group is working with national and local governments and stakeholders to facilitate river clean-up projects in East Asia and Africa.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Don Artes, along with Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Rizalino Acuzar and Social Housing Finance Corporation President and CEO Federico Laxa, welcomed the delegates on Friday.

Aboard the MMDA’s Pasig River Ferry Service, the delegates inspected the situation of informal settler families along the river and toured the Pasig River Esplanade, which is one of the newest attractions along the river, and the Marina Port Town Housing Project.

The MMDA and DHSUD, along with other government agencies, are working together on the Pasig River Urban Development with the goal of restoring the former vitality and beauty of the river.
