The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Saturday launched a program to promote community participation and a healthy environment, based on the spirit of “bayanihan.”

The program, called “Kalinga At Inisyatiba Para Sa Malinis Na Bayan” (Kalinisan), was launched in response to the impact of Super Typhoon Carina on the National Capital Region and nearby provinces.

DILG Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. stated that the program will concentrate on cleanup operations to encourage community participation.

He emphasized the importance of proper waste disposal and segregation to address the issue of garbage contributing to flooding and urged the public to work with the government to preserve and clean up the environment through disciplined and proper waste disposal practices.

Meanwhile, MMDA Chairman Don Artes said the repair of the damaged Malabon-Navotas River navigational gate is a top priority and that concerned agencies are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary actions.
